The 97th General Assembly, First Regular Session came to a close at 6:00pm, May 17, 2013. Mark Twain said, “No man’s life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.” That may have been the case when Mr. Twain was around but unfortunately, our life, liberty and property aren’t necessarily any safer when the legislature is not is session these days.

It’s been a busy couple of days in the state capitol. Two primary issues getting attention are tax reform and Obamacare Medicaid Expansion. Tax reform is anticipated to see a lot of action on the Senate floor this week and we will be writing about it later. The Obamacare Medicaid expansion will see no action on the floor!

Yesterday the Missouri House Government Oversight and Accountability Committee correctly rejected House Bill 627 which would have implemented the Obamacare Medicaid expansion by a vote of 5-2. Your over 8,000 emails made a difference!

The House Committee on Government Accountability and Oversight will be hearing HB627, the Medicaid expansion bill on Monday at Noon in Hearing Room 7. The committee will likely vote down the bill as they should.
