St. Charles Smoking Ban

Signatures are being collected for a proposed smoking ban in St Charles County that strikes a reasonable compromise between those who would ban the right of business owners to allow smoking in their private businesses and those who would have government bar businesses from making the decision.  It would be a charter amendment and is only two pages long.  You can read it here.  If you are interested in signing a petition to place the charter amendment on the ballot, you can click here for locations. The primary parts of the proposal are: Smoking allowed in establishments serving those 21 and over. Other venues may allow smoking ONLY in ventilated and enclosed area separated from the rest of the building or facility. Cigar bars and tobacco shops can allow smoking All establishments allowing smoking must have a clearly placed signs at their entrance(s) stating they are a smoking establishment You can read the proposal here. Background The St Charles County Council has taken up a smoking ban on two separate occasions and fortunately they came up short both times – but for different reasons.
